Kayden loves Mog’s Christmas Calamity by Judith Kerr

Kayden J in Y3 chose this book to share today. He had remembered lots of phrases from the text because Mr Beesley read it to the class last week. I was very impressed with his memory of  the story and how enthusiastic he was to join in where he could.  He also explained why he thought Mog was  a hero even though she started the fire.
He is showing a real interest in stories which is delightful.

Kayden enjoys ” The Grinch” December 11th

Kayden J in Year 3 has enjoyed sharing Christmas picture books from the displays around school. His favourite so far is How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr Seuss.

Kayden says that he likes this because he has seen the film.

He comments on the pictures demonstrating his understanding of the story. Having read it together on a couple of occasions he is already beginning to join in with the text where it is becoming familiar.

I am hoping that Kayden will pick out a few more festive picture books to listen to over the next ten days. Although I feel that The Grinch will remain his favourite!

8/11/17 Layla enjoys reading

Layla in Year 3 has been using pictures and beginning sounds to help herself work out unknown words in her reading book.

She is determined to work out the words on her own and only asks for help if she is stuck. She is very proud of being able to read many of the stories without much help.

Layla now enjoys stories and looks carefully when we choose a new book.

She recognises many of the tricky words, that she has learnt, within the text.

We play games to help her retain words learnt and to build her sight vocabulary.  Continue reading

Hmm….

Kayden in Year 3 has been enjoying Hmm… by Colin McNaughton this week. We talked about all the jobs that Mr Wolf could do and Kayden told me he would like to be a cook. Kayden helped me to read the story today and recognised some of the tricky words he’s been learning. We were helped by the repetitive part of the text.

WC 29/2/16 Ashlee creates a play dough picture

imageimageAshlee in Year 3 helped me to create a sentence using his target  sight word ‘they’. We wrote it on post it notes then put the words in the right order. Ashlee then made some  play dough slugs to go with his sentence! Here the slugs are taking a look at the words in the sentence to check they are in  the right order.
